A Conference Worth Travelling For

SoCraTes Conference Switzerland

Inspiring workshops, a breathtaking landscape and fondue on Prui – this year’s SoCraTes Conference Switzerland was a full success. Now, two weeks after the event, it’s time to take a closer look at the unconference and the participants’ opinion on it.

This year, the software craft and testing conference took place in Ftan, a small village situated in the Swiss Alps. The rural environment and the conference’s content were so opposed, they made the perfect mixture for an easy-going approach on topics that could get quite complicated. More than 30 developers participated in the open space conference.

As the description «open space» suggests, the program wasn’t pre-defined. It was made up every morning by the attendants. In that way, everybody got to talk about the subjects, that they were interested in the most. But this conference was more than just workshops and presentations. Skiing, fondue on Mount Prui, spa-treatments, playing games, hacking and just chatting by the campfire made SoCraTes an experience worth remembering for everyone who attended the three-day-long conference.

After SoCraTes came to an end, developer and participant Michael Ingold tweeted: « If there ever was a conference worth travelling four hours and taking five different trains and buses to get to, it’s SoCraTes. The location Fran, Engadin is stunning, but it’s the participants that make it unique and unforgettable! » – what better way to sum up those three days? See you next year! https://socrates-ch.org/
